When: Wednesday, October 1, 1997
Where: Hogwarts grounds near the Forbidden Forest
What: In which a Healer and a Priestess team up to save a First Year and his pet from the clutches of Filch and the Carrows

Lysienne looked up at the purple and orange hues of sunset, then laughed as Rolan gamboled around her like a puppy, feeling as if she had not done so for a long time. There hadn't been much to laugh about, lately. But it was good to get out of the castle, even if it was just for an evening walk. A large majestic shadow passed overhead, and she tilted her head, thinking that it somehow looked familiar. "What a beautiful bird," she murmured, wishing for a moment that she could shed all the thoughts weighing down on her and soar like that bird into the cool autumn sky.

But she had promised Madam Pomfrey that she would help that evening--students kept coming in with injuries, and the Mediwitch was exhausting herself treating them all--she sighed and turned, and saw a figure walking in her direction. Another student out for a walk? She was debating whether or not to take the long way back to the castle to avoid having to talk to anyone when a voice quite near her cried, "Sparky!" She whirled to see a First Year running in and out of the shadows of the Forbidden Forest, eyes trained on the ground. "Sparky!" he called again desperately.

She went up to him. "What's wrong?" she asked.

The other student turned a tear-streaked face to her. "Sparky! She's gone! She ran in there, and I'm scared!"

"Sparky? Who is she?"

"She's my pet mongoose," he sobbed. "She ran in front of Professor Carrow earlier, and he cast something on her, and...and I think she's hurt!"

"Don't worry, I'll help you find her. Rolan--" she started to say, when she saw Filch coming out of the castle for his nightly inspection of the grounds. She drew them both instinctively behind a tree, cursing inwardly. If he caught them, they would both get detention for going into the Forbidden Forest. She peered again in his direction, and saw his cat suddenly take off running. She bit her lip. "Rolan, can you find Sparky?" she whispered, and he disappeared quietly into the undergrowth. Now, what to do?

Who: Alison Mallory and Ora Yang
When: September 15, 1997, 3am
Where: the roof of the Headmaster's office
What: Alison and Ora install an Extendable Ear in the chimney of Snape's office

Ora waited for all the tossing and turning to stop in the beds around her. She waited until she heard the common room go quiet, and then waited for hours after that, as she watched the candles burn low and sputter, and the time crawl slowly by. She rehearsed in her head every step they had set out to do, her mind combing the details of every action, making sure they had a plan if something were to go horribly awry.

She heard Alison shift in her bed, and decided it was time. Ora parted the curtains of her bed and stepped out slowly. She was wearing loose fitting clothing and soft-soled shoes, bewitched to move without sound and reflect very little light, so that in the darkness of the dormitory room she almost looked like a disembodied head. Alison was dressed likewise, her long blonde hair floating in the darkness as they paused for a second, making sure no one else in the room was awake. Ora pointed to the door and Alison nodded.

They made their way out of the Slytherin Dungeons, careful not to make any noise or wake any of the portraits as they slinked along the walls of the Hogwarts corridors, making their way to the locker rooms and the Quidditch Pitch, where their brooms were stowed. Ora breathed a quiet sigh of relief as Alison tossed her a broom. The first step of their plan had gone without a hitch.

Who: Ora Yang, Alison Mallory, Lysienne Aldrern, and Leah Chase
When: the second week of classes
Where: The Chamber of Snogs
What: The girls plot to spy on their new Headmaster

Carefully, Ora padded down an abandoned corridor on the sixth floor of Hogwarts, looking around to make sure there were no other students in the vicinity. The sixth floor of the castle was usually strangely empty, most of the classes being on the lower floors and the greater parts of the rooms in this wing being abandoned, or having been, like most rooms at Hogwarts, shifted by the castle to some other part. The Chamber had been on the fourth floor their second year, before suddenly being moved to the sixth their fourth year, and it had taken almost of a week of prowling around Hogwarts after and between classes for them to find Gilbert and Serge again, who had giggled and snickered about how long it had taken.

Ora strode up to a wall lined with paintings that did not seem particular, and waved a hello to the boys. The darker-haired Serge was the first to notice that Ora was standing there, and he spared a glance for her before seeming to whisper something to Gilbert that made them stop mid-Snog.

"Everybody's here already," Gilbert said lazily, waving a lazy greeting at Ora before wrapping his arms around Serge's neck again. He raised an eyebrow. "You four seem to be spending more time here than usual."

Ora shrugged. "Well, with things going on the way they are this year..." she trailed off, figuring it best to leave it at that.

"Ah," Serge nodded knowingly, "I've heard rumors, bits and pieces, about the new Headmaster and the new teachers." He kissed Gilbert loving on the nose before diving back in. "Small wonder," he said, as the door swung open.

Ora entered and the door swung closed behind her, once more melting seamlessly into the walls. The other girls had various textbooks and parchments open and spread out on the floor, looking up as Ora entered.

"Sorry I'm late," Ora grinned, finding her favorite couch and plopping herself on it, dumping her schoolbag at her feet. "I think I've figured out how we're going to get those Extendable Ears in Snape's office," she said as the girls look at her and carefully set down their homework. They all seemed to be listening, so Ora launched into her idea.

"We're going to need the following things," Ora started, counting on her fingers. "A tightly controlled Reductor or Deprimo, a good enough Reparo to fix it, a good silencing charm, a quill charmed to write down everything it hears, an infinite journal (like ours), a few brooms, a good Disillusionment Charm, a perfect Sticking Charm, a good Disillusionment Charm, and probably a few brooms." Ora paused to take a breath. "In short, we are going to make a whole in the roof of Snape's office, lower down an Extendable Ear, fix the hole, leave the other end on the roof where a quill and a journal will be recording everything that's happening in there. We'll need to affix the other end of the Extendable Ear and the journal to the roof, make sure no one can see them, and make sure they won't get rained on or blown off the top of the castle.

"There," Ora said proudly, taking a big breath. It had taken her nearly all week to try and tackle the particular problem of spying on her new Headmaster. "It's that simple."

Who: This log is open to everyone~
Where: King's Cross Station, as the girls are boarding the Hogwarts Express
When: Sept. 4
What: A running log that everyone can participate in, taking place on Platform 9 3/4 (and possibly continuing onto the train) as the girls leave for Hogwarts and their seventh year.

Note: I know that Kahvi doesn't know the Snogs girls yet, but if you'd still like to post a bit about her getting on the train and/or seeing our girls, you're totally welcome to! We want to include everyone if possible~ Everyone should feel free to hop into the log anywhere, and we expect it to take a while so no worries about being late!

Alison and Ora had stopped back by the twins' shop after their brief discussion over tea; Fred and George had been happy to provide them with an entire box of Extendable Ears, along with a number of other things that might come in handy over the course of the term. They'd also been happy to promise to try and extend the range of the listening devices, so that the girls could spy on Professor Snape, as well as the Carrows and anyone else that need might dictate, as easily as possible.

As soon as the girls were stocked with as much extra weight as their trunks could hold, the twins had closed the shop for the next few hours and the four of them set off for King's Cross Station. Though she was a bit reluctant to return to Hogwarts given the incredible number of changes that had taken place in just the past few months, Alison was also more than little excited - she was glad that she'd be able to see her friends again and spend another year together with them before they all finally graduated and (You-Know-Who's regime notwithstanding) went their separate ways. There was so much uncertainty in the air about the future, though, that she figured it was best just to enjoy the present, for now, and deal with whatever came when it appeared.

The trip through Muggle London was refreshing - though things were decidedly a little less bright than normal, it was a welcome change in atmosphere from what had become of Diagon Alley, or even the tense air that had surrounded the Burrow as of late. They grabbed trolleys as they entered the station, piling their trunks and animal cages on them to make the trip to Platform 9 3/4 easier. As they stepped out of the magical barrier separating the Muggle platforms from the Wizarding ones, they were nearly swept away in the throng of students and parents crowding the platform. Alison scanned the crowd for her other friends, but there were so many people that it was hard to find them in the sea of heads lining the platform.

Lysienne waited patiently at the bottom of the spiraling staircase, her trunk beside her and Rolan frisking around her, caught up in her suppressed excitement and anxiety. Syrien usually Apparated her to Wizarding London, but she couldn't help but giggle at his strange attire as he came down the stairs. It looked exactly like the pictures of vampires that Professor Lockhart had in his textbook in Third Year: long black cloak, frills, high collar and everything!

He raised an eyebrow at her and asked, “Suitable for venturing into Knockturn Alley, don’t you think?”

She stopped laughing. “Ho-how did you know?” she stammered, then silently cursed herself.

He grinned, looking for a moment like an older brother helping a little sister keep a secret from their parents. “Let’s just say--an educated guess?”

“But…but didn’t you say that you’re not supposed to meddle in Wizarding affairs?” Lysienne protested.

“And that is why I’m counting on you to defend us both if we get into trouble.” He ruffled her hair, then placed a hand on her shoulder and Apparated.

Knockturn Alley was much less scary this time with Syrien walking behind Lysienne almost like a bodyguard. Though there were still eyes following them from the shadows, she didn’t get the feeling that they were about to be ambushed at any moment.

The apothecary shop was where she remembered it, and they reached it in far less time now that Lysienne could rely on memory instead of just a few scribbled directions from an old Potions textbook. The shop always looked closed, but the door will open for the witch or wizard who taps on it three times with their wand with a pause between the second and third taps. Lysienne was reaching for her wand when the door suddenly swung open, and a tall man wearing a long cloak and hood walked out. He stopped when he saw the pair and looked at Lysienne as if he somehow recognized her beneath her own hood. His eyes seemed to meet Syrien's for a moment--then they bowed slightly to each other, and the man walked on. Lysienne looked up at Syrien curiously, but he nudged her towards the door silently.

The shop owner, an old wizard with a face full of wrinkles and a long ragged beard, looked suspiciously at Syrien, but said nothing until Lysienne handed him the little brass chip he had given her on her last visit. Then he hurried into the back room and brought out what looked like a steaming crystal cube.

“Careful with that, Miss,” he warned her, and Lysienne nodded and packed it carefully away into the box of ice she had brought in her bag. Then she paid him and left.

Syrien never entered the train station, so Lysienne said her goodbye to him outside. He looked at her for a long moment and said, “I’m proud of you, Lysienne. You’ve learned and grown so much these past few years. This last year will be the hardest, but I think you know now that you have friends who will be there for you if you need them. Just don’t forget that the Healer sometimes needs to be healed too, so don’t refuse help when it’s offered. Do what you need to. Your staff will be waiting when you’re ready to claim it.”

She hugged him hard and ran off with her luggage before he could see her begin to cry. She merged quickly into the crowd of people entering the station, but stopped abruptly in front of the Daily Prophet stand even as several Muggles skirted it without ever realizing that their feet had taken them around an invisible object. Severus Snape, long-standing Potions master at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, was today appointed headmaster in the most important of several staffing changes at the ancient school, she read, and her eyes widened.

Ora sipped her tea quietly, her thoughts clouded with worry. She'd dropped off her cat and her trunk at the Twins's flat, figuring it was the best, if not only place to leave it if she was going to catch up with Alison and the rest of her friends before boarding the Hogwarts Express.

The small teashop on Diagon Alley was subdued this early in the day, though perhaps part of it was the spillover from the furtive fear which seemed to permeate all of Wizarding London. Florian Fortescue's was still boarded up and Ollivander's was dark and silent, its owner missing. Various other shops were in a similar state, and it was nearly impossible for Ora to walk a few paces without seeing some shop she had once loved to visit completely abandoned.

The copy of today's Daily Prophet lay before her and she read it over and over again, hardly believing her eyes.

Severus Snape, long-standing Potions master at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, was today appointed headmaster in the most important of several staffing changes at the ancient school. Following the resignation of the previous Muggle Studies teacher, Alecto Carrow will will take over the post while her brother, Amycus, fills the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts professor...

Ora looked up from the newspaper, full of dread. "Is this good news," she asked hopefully, "or bad news?"

Who: Alison Mallory, Leah Chase, and Ora Yang
Where: The Burrow, Ottery St. Catchpole
When: Aug. 11, the day of Bill and Fleur's wedding
What: The girls are enjoying the wedding reception when the Ministry of Magic falls.

Alison leaned back in her chair, watching the nearest witch and wizard couple on the dance floor glide by. The music had mellowed out a bit, given that evening was falling over the village of Ottery St. Catchpole, and, of course, the lawn of the Burrow where Bill and Fleur had gotten married only a few hours before. The wedding had been simple but really quite beautiful, and the reception that followed had included an abundance of food, drink, and dancing. Not long ago, the twins had been dragged off by a small group of French girls who were twittering amusedly, though every once in a while one of the boys would catch her eye and grin as reassuringly as, well, they ever did.

Now Alison was left at a table near the front with Ora and Leah; they'd settled back with a bit of champagne each and were chatting quietly about their summers, as well as what they thought would be in store for them during their last year at Hogwarts. They'd just begun discussing their rather long and daunting list of schoolbooks, and had agreed that, if possible, they would go shopping for them together in the remaining time before the school year started. Things were tense all over, though - and especially in London, and Alison could vouch for the fact that Diagon Alley definitely wasn't what it used to be. "Hopefully you guys will be able to come down and get your books in person," she was saying, as Leah took a sip of her drink. "I mean, if you come to the joke shop, we can all go to Flourish and Blotts together.

Who: Alison Mallory and Ora Yang
Where: Oxford Street, Muggle London
When: a few days before wedding of Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour
What: shopping for dresses

Ora stood on her tiptoes, trying to peer over the heads of the crowds at Oxford Circus station to spot her friend, Alison. They hadn't seen each other at all over the summer, not since they'd gotten off the Hogwarts Express at King's Cross Station and been whisked away by their parents. Ora had just gotten home to London yesterday after an extended summer holiday with her mother in China, and already she could tell that her father was worried over the state of Wizarding Britain. Late last night she'd even heard her parents debating whether they'd let her even attend her last year at Hogwarts.

Nevertheless, Ora remained optimistic--she'd already promised Alison they'd go together to Fleur Delacour and Bill Weasley's wedding at the Burrow, and there was nothing to take her mind off Draco Malfoy, the spreading influence of You-Know-Who and his Death Eaters, and her parent's concern, like a full day of shopping. Clothes shopping, no less.

Spotting a short blonde head fighting her way through the crowds, Ora jumped up and started waving.

"Alison! Alison! Over here!"
