[LOG] Lost in Hogwarts
Sep. 20th, 2007 12:51 pmWho: Kahvi Sidhe, but open to any who wish to jump in and save me ;)
Where: Somewhere on the 6th Floor of Hogwarts
When: September 20, 1997, after classes & before dinner
What: Trying to find the way back to Ravenclaw Tower
Up, up, up, she thought, wandering the sixth floor hallway in the hopes of finding a familiar staircase. Her dormitory was in one of the towers, so surely if she visited each, she would recognize the entrance--it was only logical. Unfortunately for Kahvi, the castle seemed entirely too homogenous to her eyes, used to the open-air architectures of her island home where she could always find her bearings by finding the landscape. Without a doubt, she knew she was completely lost. The stone walls all looked and smelled terribly similar, thanks to the constant passage of the same population of people, leaving her very little to navigate by.
Except for the pictures. Never in her life had Kahvi seen so many wizarding pictures in one location, having practically co-habited with Muggles. To top it off, her mother's brand of wall-decor revolved more around traditional Asian brush paintings, brocades, and tapestries which were not animated, so the constantly moving paintings watching and twitching around her unnerved her significantly as she padded quietly down the hallway, in search of stairs leading upwards. They were a trick she was fully aware of and could not ignore, playing with the peripheries of her vision.
She sighed in exasperation, stopping momentarily to collect her thoughts and absentmindedly pulling a little at her tie, which was pressing in a bit on the necklace completely covered by her collared shirt. Kahvi hadn't seen anything against wearing jewelry in the Hogwarts dress code, but didn't feel like taking chances. The hallway was strangely empty, devoid of anyone she could ask for help--if only she hadn't gone wandering for classroom eleven to see the centaur Firenze she would not have lost sight of Ravenclaws she recognized whom she could have followed back to the tower after their last class. But then again, she'd mentioned him in the post script of her letter to Khorrin last weekend, and she had wanted to write about what Firenze had actually looked like in her next letter. Now she would be able to, having miraculously found the marvelous room, and she would definitely have to write about the room, too. It had even smelled like a forest!
It wasn't all bad, perhaps. If worse came to worse, she would just find stairs down in a few hours and make her way to the Great Hall for dinner and follow the Ravenclaws back to the tower from there. She'd just look silly having brought her Ancient Runes books with her, but hey, the Ravenclaws were all bookworms anyway, so she couldn't look that far out of place, right?
"Well excuse us," came a voice from nowhere, effectively derailing Kahvi's train of thought.
"Huh?" Kahvi looked up and realized that she'd appeared to have been staring at one of the paintings on the wall. "I'm terribly sorry, I..." her voice trailed off as she actually saw the picture for the first time: it was a depiction of two boys who were... oh my. Kahvi blushed and stared fiercely at her shoes. They were still quite shiny and new. "I'm sorry," she reiterated weakly. "I didn't mean to stare, I was just lost... both in thought and physically, actually." In the back of her mind, something felt a little silly about trying to justify one's reason for being somewhere to a painting.
"Oh, it's quite alright," said the other boy. "We get stared at a lot!" Kahvi could hear the grin in the boy's voice.
She started to try and ask for directions, but found herself cut off before she meekly muttered the first few syllables of her request.
"But they're all staring at you," pouted the first boy to his lover.
"Only because they're jealous of me for being able to share this painting with you," retorted the second. Sounds of snogging and general affection ensued.
It was a bit much for Kahvi, who fidgeted uncomfortably with her eyes locked on her shiny new shoes. Yup, still shiny. She silently sent up a small prayer to her goddess of fire, very much aware of the warmth of her blushing crawling towards her ears as the questionable sounds increased in their muffled volume. Heeeeeelp~!
