When my Portkey arrives at the Burrow in a few minutes, it will be sitting on top of a bouquet, but I will not be with it. I'm so sorry, after all the trouble you went through....

Syrien came home early this afternoon as I was gathering flowers from the garden. He looked at me and said, "You're still planning to go to the wedding."

I couldn't reply, but I guess that was enough of an answer, since he knew that I could never lie to him. Then he said to me: "I raised you to think for yourself, it’s true—but to think, Lysienne. How much of that have you been doing lately, instead of just blindly running after what you want for the moment? What if something should happen? Your friends are already over the age limit for performing magic, but you would only put them in danger. Would you risk someone else’s life because they must defend you in addition to themselves? The situation in Britain is very precarious right now. If you make up your mind to go regardless, then I will not stop you. But you must think about the potential consequences before you act."

I sat there in the garden and thought about it. I know that Syrien does not say such things lightly. And even if I were of age, my offensive spells have never been very good, unlike the rest of the DA. I would hate myself if someone were to get hurt because of me...so that is why I decided not to go. Please be careful, and I hope you'll laugh at me later for being such a worrywort. Oh, and will you wish Bill and Fleur much joy and happiness from me? I hope everyone has a wonderful time at the wedding!

Who: Alison Mallory, Leah Chase, and Ora Yang
Where: The Burrow, Ottery St. Catchpole
When: Aug. 11, the day of Bill and Fleur's wedding
What: The girls are enjoying the wedding reception when the Ministry of Magic falls.

Alison leaned back in her chair, watching the nearest witch and wizard couple on the dance floor glide by. The music had mellowed out a bit, given that evening was falling over the village of Ottery St. Catchpole, and, of course, the lawn of the Burrow where Bill and Fleur had gotten married only a few hours before. The wedding had been simple but really quite beautiful, and the reception that followed had included an abundance of food, drink, and dancing. Not long ago, the twins had been dragged off by a small group of French girls who were twittering amusedly, though every once in a while one of the boys would catch her eye and grin as reassuringly as, well, they ever did.

Now Alison was left at a table near the front with Ora and Leah; they'd settled back with a bit of champagne each and were chatting quietly about their summers, as well as what they thought would be in store for them during their last year at Hogwarts. They'd just begun discussing their rather long and daunting list of schoolbooks, and had agreed that, if possible, they would go shopping for them together in the remaining time before the school year started. Things were tense all over, though - and especially in London, and Alison could vouch for the fact that Diagon Alley definitely wasn't what it used to be. "Hopefully you guys will be able to come down and get your books in person," she was saying, as Leah took a sip of her drink. "I mean, if you come to the joke shop, we can all go to Flourish and Blotts together.
